Pacific Coach’s Tiny Techies & Digital Storytellers Program introduces children in Grades 2 and 3 to the magic of technology through play, stories, and puzzles. In this safe and engaging online environment, we lay the first building blocks of computational thinking, turning screen time into a creative, educational, and joyful learning experience.

Course Overview:

This is not just a coding course; it's an adventure in digital literacy and logical reasoning. We use vibrant, child-friendly platforms that require no reading fluency, just a love for discovery. Through drag-and-drop activities, storytelling, and game-based learning, our youngest students learn to solve problems, sequence events, and create their own simple animated stories and games, building a lifelong love for learning and technology.

Understand Basic Sequencing: Learn the fundamental concept of putting commands in a logical order to achieve a goal.

What Your Child Will Learn & Create:

Our curriculum is built on four fun-filled pillars of discovery:

Intro to Code with Picture-Based Programming:

We use intuitive, icon-based platforms like ScratchJr and Kodable where children program by snapping together colorful coding blocks.

They learn core concepts like:

Commands: Move up, down, left, right.

Sequences: Putting commands in the right order.

Simple Loops: Repeat an action.

Events: Start on tap or click.

STEM Integration Through Play:

Activity Example: "Help the Astronaut Home!" – Sequence movement commands to navigate a spaceship through a maze of planets.

Activity Example: "Feed the Animal" – Use loops to repeatedly drop food into an animal's mouth, learning about repetition and counting.

Create Simple Animated Stories:

Children become digital storytellers, coding their own characters and scenes.

Project Example: "Underwater Adventure" – Code a fish to swim across the screen, meet a friend, and blow bubbles.

Project Example: "A Day in the Park" – Animate two characters to play on a swing and slide by sequencing their movements.

Build Your First Mini-Game:

They will proudly create their very first playable game.

Project Example: "Race to the Finish" – Program two characters to have a race across the screen when a "Go" button is pressed.

The Technology We Use:

Primary Platform: ScratchJr – A tablet-friendly, visual programming language developed by Tufts University and MIT for children ages 5-7. It uses graphical blocks that children snap together to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing.

Supplementary Platforms: We may also use other age-appropriate, game-based environments like Kodable or Code.org's pre-reader courses to reinforce concepts through varied activities.

This course is the crucial first step in the Pacific Coach learning journey. It builds the foundational cognitive skills—logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and sequential thinking—that are essential for success in our courses for older grades.
